Baker's Dozen
Thirteen columns with every card face up: a quiet puzzle with no luck from a deck.
The aim
Move all 52 cards onto four piles, one for each suit, starting with the ace and going up to the king.
How the cards are laid out
- Thirteen columns of four cards, all face up. Thirteen is a baker's dozen.
- Any king is moved to the bottom of its column when the cards are dealt, so kings never block anything.
- There is no deck.
How to play, step by step
- A card can go onto any card one higher, whatever the suit. Any 6 can go on any 7.
- Cards move one at a time.
- When a column is emptied, it stays empty. Nothing can go back into it.
- Aces go onto the suit piles, then the 2 of the same suit, and so on.
Tips
- Find the aces and 2s first and work out how to reach them.
- Because empty columns can't be used again, don't empty one just because you can.
