Spider
Two decks of cards, ten columns, and your choice of how hard: one suit, two or four.
The aim
Build eight complete runs, each going down from king to ace in a single suit. Each finished run leaves the table by itself and goes to the top of the screen.
How the cards are laid out
- There are 104 cards, two full decks.
- 54 of them are dealt into ten columns: six cards in each of the first four columns and five in the rest. Only the top card of each column is face up.
- The other 50 cards are the deck, at the top left. They make five more deals of ten cards, and the number on the deck shows how many deals are left.
How to play, step by step
- A card can go onto any card one higher, whatever the suit. Any 6 can go on any 7.
- Several cards can move together only if they go down in order and are all the same suit.
- When you move the cards off a face-down card, it turns over by itself.
- Any card, or any run of one suit, can go into an empty column.
- When you run out of moves, tap the deck. It deals one new card onto every column. You can only deal when no column is empty.
One, two or four suits?
- One suit uses only spades, so every card can join every run. The gentlest way to play.
- Two suits uses spades and hearts. A good middle step.
- Four suits uses all four suits, and takes the most planning.
Tips
- When you can choose, put a card on one of its own suit, so the run can move together later.
- Turn over face-down cards early. Every one you uncover gives you more choices.
- An empty column is very useful, so use it well. The deck won't deal again until every column has a card in it.
Playing here
- Tap a card to pick it up with the cards below it, then tap where it should go.
- Tap the deck to deal a new row.
- Undo takes back any move, including a deal.
- Restart plays the same deal again; New game deals a different one.
