Forty Thieves
Two decks and a challenge: one card at a time, and only one trip through the deck.
The aim
Build eight piles, two for each suit, each going up from the ace to the king.
How the cards are laid out
- There are 104 cards, two full decks.
- Forty of them are dealt face up into ten columns of four. That is where the name comes from.
- The other 64 are the deck, at the top left, with eight places for the suit piles beside it.
How to play, step by step
- A card can go onto a column when it is one lower and the same suit, such as the 6 of hearts on the 7 of hearts.
- Cards move one at a time.
- Any card can go into an empty column.
- Aces go onto the suit piles, then the 2 of the same suit, and so on.
- Tap the deck to turn over one card. You go through the deck only once, so think before each tap.
Tips
- Empty columns are precious. Aim to clear one early.
- Don't hurry cards onto the suit piles if they could still help build down in a column.
- It's one of the harder solitaires. Undo lets you try a different path as often as you like.
